Summer Infections

Here in the pharmacy, we are often asked about skin problems, particularly infections. Every area of our skin can be affected usually by trauma (even if the skin isn’t broken) or by skin damage eg. splinters or cuts.

Over lay this with general ill health (eg diabetes, immune compromised), poor hygiene and it can be a massive issue. However, with some basic first aid and monitoring most infections can be managed.

With summer holidays just around the corner, it’s a good time to stop up the first aid kit. Bring in your existing kit or we have ones in stock ready to go. One of the products I’m loving and would not be without is a manuka honey wound gel for wounds. Also, never underestimate the power of wound dressings. These days they are healing agents in their own right.

A very common infection we deal with a lot is eye and eye lash infections. Nowadays, it’s possible to treat with over the counter antibiotics drops but sometimes a simple clean can be just as effective.
